Usagely Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-09-16

Usagely is a local-first Windows desktop app for tracking usage limits, activity and planning across several AI providers. It runs entirely on your own PC. There is no Usagely account, no Usagely server, and no telemetry.

What Usagely reads

Your provider usage pages. Usagely opens each provider's own usage page in an embedded browser window, signed in as you, and reads the usage figures shown there. Depending on which providers you use, that means:

ProviderPages contacted
Claudeclaude.ai
GPT Codexchatgpt.com, openai.com
Kimikimi.com, moonshot.ai, moonshot.cn
Grokgrok.com, x.ai, x.com
Geminigemini.google.com, google.com

Sign-in may also involve the identity providers those services offer, such as accounts.google.com, appleid.apple.com, microsoftonline.com and live.com.

For Kimi and Grok, Usagely reads usage from those services' own API endpoints. Those requests are made from inside your signed-in browser session, in the same way the website itself would make them. They do not pass through any Usagely service.

Local AI coding transcripts. If present, Usagely reads files from:

These are used to calculate local statistics (token totals, activity by project and hour, estimated lines written) and, for Codex, to read the most recent usage-limit record. They are read from disk and never uploaded.

The active window title. If you enable Auto-send, a native helper checks whether the focused control accepts text before pressing Enter. On Windows it can also read the foreground window's title, which is used for diagnostics only.

What Usagely stores

App data is stored in your own Windows profile, typically %APPDATA%\Usagely:

Project names appear in the Tracking tab. If you are sharing your screen, the Tracking tab has a control that masks them.

What Usagely writes outside its own folder

One optional feature writes outside %APPDATA%\Usagely: planner file sync. When enabled, Usagely mirrors a project's planner tasks to .usagely/TASKS.md inside that project's own folder, so AI coding assistants working in the repository can read the list, tick items off and add their own.

This is off by default. Nothing is written for a project with no tasks or notes, and Usagely never creates a project folder that does not already exist.

Network use

Usagely contacts the provider websites listed above, and nothing else, in order to load usage information and let you sign in.

Usagely does not operate a cloud service. It does not upload transcripts, planner content, usage analytics, or any other data to a Usagely-operated server, because no such server exists.

If a purchase or licence check is made for a paid feature, that communication is between your PC and the Microsoft Store, and is handled by Windows rather than by Usagely.

Credentials

Usagely never asks you to type a provider password into Usagely itself. Signing in happens in that provider's own web page, loaded in an embedded browser window. Usagely holds the resulting session the same way a browser does, on your PC, and can clear it again with the sign-out control.

Data sharing

Usagely does not sell user data, and does not share it with third parties. The only parties who receive anything are the AI providers you choose to sign in to, and they receive only what your own browser session sends them.

Your control

Children

Usagely is a developer utility and is not directed at children.
